SymNote is a “SimpleNote” App for Symbian Smartphones
SymNote lets you make notes and keep them up to date wherever you are. Notes edited on the desktop can be set to automatically sync to your phone every time the app starts up.
SymNote even works when don’t have a data connection available, storing the note changes or new notes in its internal database, then pushing them to the SimpleNote servers the next time a sync is performed.
Features:
- Downloads your last 100 SimpleNote notes to your phone
- Can be set to auto sync on start up
- Split entry to make editing notes easier (Supported in Symbian 3 and Symbian Anna)
- Create new notes
- Editing existing notes
- View meta data about notes
- Add Tags / Share notes to other people
- Delete and un-delete notes
- Pin / unpin notes to / from the top of the note list
- Option to change note font size (beneficial to E6 users)
- Filter notes by status : All / Current / Deleted / Un-Synced
- Display notes by Tag
- Search for notes based on a keyword based on their tag or the note content
- Update and create notes offline
- Indicators for pinned, shared, edited and locally changed only notes in the list view
The first time you open the app you will either need to log in or sign up to the SimpleNote service:
After the first log in your SimpleNote list will automatically be synced to your phone, this downloads your last 100 notes to your phone. There is a search bar at the top of the note list that allows you to filter the notes displayed based on words found in the notes. The list view shows you the note title and the last time it was edited as well as providing more information about the note using visual indicators for the following things where necessary:
- Star Icon: Note is pinned to the top of the list
- Sideways RSS / Wifi icon: Note is shared with other people
- Chat Icon: Note has been edited by someone else who is sharing the note
- Pen icon: Local changes have occurred to this note and it needs to be pushed to the SimpleNote server.
The menu in the list view provides a sub menu that allows you to filter the items in the note list by their status.
The tag button on the toolbar allows the filtering of notes based on tags assigned to them. Closing the tag filter using the X clears the tag filter.
Pressing on a note or the “+” icon to create a new note, takes you to the editor.

The editor has a split keyboard implementation so you can see the rest of your note as you edit it. The keyboard becomes visible after pressing on an area of the note you wish to start editing.
Pressing the info button on the toolbar flips the note page over and presents you with meta data about the note as well as giving you the option to add and remove tags.
The editor view’s menu allows the pinning / unpinning of notes, ability undo any unsaved changes, fetch the note again from the server, delete the note and switch to a larger font (for high resolution devices like the E6).
There is also an option to switch the editor to an AMOLED friendly dark theme. This change also affects the Info Pane.
The app allows the user to decide how syncs should be performed on start up. Some people prefer an automatic sync on start up others prefer the option to be able to do it manually.
SymNote also has keyboard support for devices like the E6.
